THE WORD "AMPHIBIAN"

The word "amphibian" really means "living two lives". The first part of the word, "amphi", means two or both. The second part of the word, "bian" means lives or living.

Young amphibians live in the water like a fish. Then the adults live on land. Because young amphibians look so different from the adults, it seems that one animal lives two lives.
