New England Aster (Aster novae-angliae) By late August the New England asters have begun to bloom. This is the largest of the prairie asters reaching to as much as 100 cm and has the largest flowers as well. The plants grow as clumps of leafy stalks. It seems to prefer the edges of the prairie habitat in the parkland regions of Manitoba.
