Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa)
Wild bergamot is one of several wild mints
to be found in the tall-grass prairie. The twisted, bugle-like flowers
form a dense head, rising to about 45 cm, opening in mid-July. The plants
prefer drier, well drained sites and grow as small clumps, spreading
by short rhizomes. All parts of the plant are mildly aromatic.
